Jane first joined Canterbury in 1982 and played in many grades from social 4 th grade and indoor to A grade. She was a member of the A Reserve Premiership team in 1987.
Jane first joined the Committee as Social Director in 1984, followed by Minutes Secretary in 1985 and then become President for three years from 1986 to 1988. She also was Publicity Officer in 1990. Jane has served on the S.T.W.H.A. as Indoor Convenor and as Coaching Convenor, and was part of the organising committee for the 1989 National Women’s’ Championships, being responsible for securing major sponsorship for that event.
She coached Canterbury Under 14’s in 1988 and assisted with the Under 16’s in 1987.
Jane’s major contributions to Canterbury has been in the areas of Junior Development, sponsorship and player recruitment. She has been the driving force behind the encouragement and development of Canterbury’s underage teams and this is now showing results in the senior grades and augurs well for the future.
She was responsible for the recruitment of several senior players, leading to the building of a strong A Grade team which has won the Southern and State-wide Premierships for Canterbury for the first time in the Club’s history. Jane single-handily secured the long-term sponsorship which has played a major part in Canterbury’s financial security and has enabled the Club to support its State Representatives and to keep playing costs down. Jane’s commitment and loyalty to Canterbury has always been 100% and she has had a very positive effect on the Club and everyone involved with it. She is a great communicator and a believer in putting the Clubs interests first and has been a major influence in making Canterbury Women’s Hockey Club the strong Club it is today!
In recognition of all these things, Canterbury Women’s Hockey Club is proud to award to Jane Patten the Club’s highest accolade, a Life Membership.
