Canterbury has strong representation across all junior grades, and a focus on skill development, social cohesion, and lifelong enjoyment of the sport.

For juniors aged 6-12, Canterbury welcomes all players to participate in the Southern Competitions Hookin2Hockey program which runs for 5 weeks each school term.  For more info, including online rego form please see our Hookin2Hockey page.

For juniors aged 10+, Canterbury offers teams in mixed full field development, Under 13s, Under 15s, and Under 18s.

Game Times

The 2023 junior season starts on Friday 28 April.

Friday nights: Full Field Development and Under 13s

Monday nights: Under 15s and Under 18s

All Junior trainings are held on Tuesday evenings between 5pm – 6.30pm on THC1 of the Tasmanian Hockey Centre, Bell St New Town.

Registration and cost

All junior players are required to register with Hockey Tasmania through their website. 2023 registration for juniors (for players aged 17 or younger as at 1st Jan) is $63 and will cover costs involved in the administration of hockey, including insurance for your children and Hockey Australia and Hockey Tasmania Levies. Registration does not cover the full cost of playing and a separate invoice will be sent out by Canterbury once the season has commence.

Juniors who play for a senior team will be charged a senior levy of $100 on top of their junior subs. These juniors will be welcome to attend all the appropriate senior training sessions, as well as their own junior trainings. Canterbury offers payment plans options as well.
