Encouragement Award for first year Player Women: Encouragement for first year female player to the club/hockey to continue their hockey journey with Canterbury

Most Valuable Women’s Defender: A player who has played in a defensive position for the season and has significantly contributed to the defensive successes of the team throughout the season

Most Valuable Men’s Defender donated by The Shoemart A player who has played in a defensive position for the season and has significantly contributed to the defensive successes of the team throughout the season

Umpiring Award: Senior Umpire who has shown improvement, determination to succeed, support of others, umpiring across multiple levels within the hockey community

President’s Perpetual Trophy for Best Club Member: Club member(s)/family who has contributed significantly to the club over the course of the season.

Golden Gnome Award: If one person witnessed it, it’s true.

Most Improved Junior

The recipient of the Most Improved Player Award goes to a junior aged player who has increased the impact he or she has had in a positive way from the beginning to the end of the season. The qualities of the most improved player include:

  • Improvement in playing performance over the season (including individual skill, fitness, understanding of rules and implementation of strategies)
  • Commitment and effort at training and games
  • Willingness to listen and learn at training and games
  • Seeks feedback, clarifies understanding and takes action.
  • Demonstrates a keen interest in advancing his/her hockey skills and knowledge

Most Promising Junior

The recipient of the Most Promising Player Award goes to a junior aged player who demonstrates the following qualities:

  • A positive and supportive attitude on and off the field to peers, coaches, umpires and supporters
  • Is a willing and positive contributor to team discussions
  • Is a good listener who implements team strategies
  • Is flexible and willing to do what is best for the team
  • Shows consistency at training and in games throughout the season
  • Is self aware and works hard to improve
  • Is resilient and hard working
  • Demonstrates a sound understanding of rules, strategies and skills of hockey
  • Has good fundamental hockey skills
  • Is a player who shows a keen interest in advancing their hockey skills
  • Demonstrates flare/wow factor in one or more aspects of his/her game
