Welcome back to Canterbury for Junior Hockey in 2018.
We’ve been busy behind the scenes planning for the upcoming season, and we hope to see you soon in your red and blue!
There have been some changes this year to the Juniors.
U8s and U10s have been replaced by Stick 2 Hockey. Which has 3 branches
• Mini 5s for 6-8 yr olds played on 1/8th turf
• Super 6s for 8-10 yr olds played on 1/4 turf
• Hockey 7s for 10yrs + play on half field
U12, U14, U16 & U18s have changed to U13, U15 & U18s to align with Hockey Australia.
Check out Hockey Tasmania Junior Zone for all your junior hockey info on development programs, school holiday clinics and more
Planning – Canterbury Registration
We are planning our junior teams at the moment, and would appreciate if you could let us know if your child is going to play.
Canterbury will be holding a Registration BBQ on Tuesday 13th March.
This will be in conjunction with our Junior Development Program on that night, between 5pm and 6pm.
We encourage you to come along with your kids for a sausage.
Registering is important.
• It allows us to plan our teams
• to make sure our parent contact details are correct
• and gives you an opportunity to share any health issues that may affect your children’s hockey.
To register, please click here to download the registration form, and fill in and bring it to the Registration night on Tuesday 13th March or send it back to Kirsty Palmer email@example.com once finished.
Junior Development Program – sponsored by Ogilvie Jennings, Barristers & Solicitors
Once again we are offering this free program to our juniors.
Running on Tuesday afternoons for five weeks starting Tuesday 27th February, and we are happy to take extra enrolments if you would like to join.
Registration for the Junior Development Program can be completed by clicking here
Please contact Kirsty Palmer via email for further details.
The Junior season starts on Friday 27th April.
There will be 15 games rostered for Juniors this season.
These details are still to be confirmed from Hockey Tasmania. We are expecting that U13s and U15 Girls will be on Friday nights, U15 boys and the U18s will be on Monday nights
There are no games during the Easter school holidays.
Training for Under 13’s and 15’s will be on Tuesday nights between 5-6pm.
Training for Under 18’s will be on Thursday nights between 6-7pm.
Your team managers will be in touch as to when training will commence
We once again have a stellar line up of coaches for our Juniors in 2018. Together they bring a wealth of experience to share with your children.
Under 13 Girls – Christie Lucas
Under 15 Girls – to be confirmed
Under 18 Girls – Rob Rowell
Under 13 Boys – Matty Gee
Under 15 Boys – Dan Mills & Sam McCulloch
Under 18 Boys – Lachlan Oakford
All players are required to register with Hockey Tasmania. This is $56 for Juniors.
This covers the cost of insurance for your children, as well as Hockey Australia and Tasmania levies.
There will also be an invoice sent by Canterbury.
Canterbury is trying to keep our costs per game similar to 2017.
Juniors who play for a Senior team will be charged Senior fees. These Juniors will be welcome to attend all the appropriate Senior training sessions, as well as their own Junior trainings.
Canterbury offers a discount for early payment of fees, and will also be offering payment plans in 2018. More details will follow when subs are issued.
Hockey Tasmania registration
This registration is required online with Hockey Tasmania. The registration covers off on the cost involved in the administration of hockey including insurance, Hockey Australia and Hockey Tasmania Levies.
We would really like people to get in & register or re-register NOW with Hockey Tasmania! It is a requirement to register online prior to playing games. If matches are played with unregistered players, it will cause the match to be forfeited and any points from the match will be lost. Registering now also assists the club with knowing playing numbers for each of the teams. Please help us out & register NOW.
Details on how to register with Hockey Tasmania are available, please click here.
Parent Gate Passes
There has been an increase in the cost of Gate entry for parents to $5 a person.
As an alternative, Hockey Tasmania offer a Non-Playing Registration that provides a Gate Pass for $70. Allowing entry to all games, senior or junior.
There is excellent value, and allows you to forget your wallet…but not your card.
You can access this using the Registration Portal on the Hockey Tasmania website.
Bring a Friend
Friends make hockey even more fun 🙂
Canterbury is happy to welcome new kids to our Junior Development Program, and for the upcoming season.
We would especially welcome boys who are 10-13 years of age, and girls who are 13-15 years of age to bolster our team numbers.
Moonah Dental Centre with branches at Moonah, Claremont and Campbell Street have generously sponsored our Junior Development Clinic since 2014.
If you need a mouth guard, please consider supporting our sponsor…and mention that you’re from Canterbury while you’re there.
Canterbury uniform is available from our Uniform Officer, Ally Curtis.
Please contact her by email firstname.lastname@example.org for further details or text on 0407 238 648.
Our club socks are available year round at Just Hockey.
